Target has compensated me for my time and provided me with vouchers to purchase items for the room decor.
I have absolutely no idea why it never occurred to me, in the time that our youngest has being having unsettled sleep, that it possibly had to do with his bedding. He's been out of a cot for well and truly over a year now and I've held off purchasing new beds for both our boys as I'd not entirely made up my mind about what I wanted. But now I'm pretty certain about where and what 'look' I'm going for and have started planning.
Over the next few months I'll be spending time transforming the big bedroom that our eldest son currently has, into a room for both the boys. So yes that absolutely means matching beds; bedding; decor... the works. I'm not promising it will happen quickly, just because of our locality and the reality of purchasing new bedframes/mattresses/furniture is not an all in a day's work.
Lucky for me a few weeks back, hubby gave me the 'day off' and I headed away for some 'me time' where I happen to get the ball rolling on the boys room transformation. Now I know you're all sitting there thinking, 'day off'? Well, I don't know bout you, but as a Mum that lives on a farm, nowhere near family or childcare options, I start to go a little stir crazy if I don't get to get some time to myself every now and then. Selfish some may say, but essential for my mental health? Absolutely! As a dear friend tells her cherubs when she has some 'time out', Mummy is going away for a few days to come home and love you more! Says it all really!! And seriously, I'm talking like once every 6 months spending maybe one or two nights away, I'd hardly call that unreasonably indulgent!
So 'winter warmers' you may ask? Well, getting back to the unsettled sleeping of our 3.5 year old, I decided the new bedding for the room makeover, needed to be of the 'winter' variety. So, much fun I did have on my 'day off' buying new additions. Here's what I came home with to begin with, from the affordable and durable homewares ranges that are available in Target.
Why only one mattress topper you say? Well until we actually purchase the new bed frames, we only have one single bed. Our eldest currently sleeps in a double bed. So when we do get the new additions, I'll will certainly be running out to buy another one of these fantastic mattress toppers. On a sidenote, after we'd made up the single bed with the newly purchased and freshly laundered sheets and mattress topper, our youngest had awoken one night unwell, and I had him in our bed. Not long after I calmed him and got him back to sleep, I decided I wouldn't disturb him in our bed, but I was too squashed, so I got out of our bed and relocated to his. Perfect opportunity to roadtest the new purchases. And let me tell you, what a very snuggly, comfy bed that was! Can't tell you how awesome the mattress topper is for comfort. Got to love the warmth of winter flannelette sheets too. How could they not be great? They're polkadot!
How soft and snuggly does this bed look!
Couldn't resist the very cute metal storage baskets either. They are going to be put to very good use in the coming months as part of the room transformation so watch this space....
For those interested here are the details of the products purchased from Target:
:: Target: Kids Room Flannelette Fitted Sheet Set (single) in Dotty Blue: $20 each
:: Target Grandeur Mattress Topper (single): $79
:: Target Essentials Cotton Blanket (single): $20 each
:: 2 Pack feather pillow: $30
:: No 3 Wire Storage Basket with linen lining: $28 each
Part of my justification in buying all this new bedding, is having the ability to machine wash everything from the pillow to the mattress toppers. I know this is definitely selling point for some people, especially with family members or children with allergies. This factor certainly appeals to my sister with all three of her children, with very sensitive skin and are also highly allergic to multitudes of things.
Did you know that not only can you shop online with Target but you can also Layby online? Such a fantastic service to offer, especially for those living in rural areas like me. What's not to love?
Definitely stay tuned for the next installment of the boys room makeover.
