Updating a space in the Kitchen

Can't quite fathom that we've lived in this home for two years this very week - where has that time gone! We love how big and open the kitchen area is but felt like the space was fairly bare, especially the, what I like to call, purple feature wall. A little while after we'd been here we thought we'd buy a sideboard of some description and went with pine to match with the dining table and bar stools, as these were what suited our previous home. So we turned to trusty Ikea for the sideboard and picked up an inexpensive one and it did the job. But in completely honesty it wasn't terribly aesthetically pleasing, mostly because it looked horrid against the wall! In an ideal world I would have ditched the sideboard and gone crazy buying a proper display unit but couldn't justify it, given we have oodles of storage space in this home and it would literally sit empty other than a few display items.

After perusing Pinterest a while back I had a brainwave that I could affix a shelf to the wall and sit the sideboard underneath after I'd given it a facelift. Once I decided on the wall shelf I wanted from Ikea of course,  I then spraypainted the sideboard white to match and have finally put it all together in the kitchen, just this weekend gone. And I must say, I love it. Perfect little solution and space for decorative bits and pieces and not to mention seasonal decorating too! The only thing I am going to do to finish it off is paint some baskets I have white to fit on the bottom shelf, so stay tuned, I'll do a photo update when it's done!

  3. This looks amazing! We are currently converting our furniture to white (going from choc brown) and I blame Pinterest too! White is so much fresher and brighter - I think you outgrow certain styles over time. I also love all of your bits and pieces - absolutely gorgeous!
