Finally have some photos to show you of my almost finished
'Mudroom' of sorts!!
The only thing to come is a cushion to fit over the entire bench - just waiting to get hold of the cut foam piece and then I will sew a fabric cover for it. But that requires a few hour trip
and not on the cards at this stage.
So rather than wait until then to reveal, here it is!
I am really pleased with how it came together.
It is actually the perfect height to sit on and has already been put to good use for sitting and taking boots and shoes on and off!
The Stenstorp rack from IKEA was obviously just a straight install.
We did a 'hack' for the 5 x 1 Expedit from IKEA by installing 6 furniture legs on the bottom. These were a few dollars each from Bunnings. Hubby used a drill to make a hole and then drilled screws in to attach each leg. I'd done my research into attaching legs this way and knew we needed to be very careful as the unit is only made of particle board with a very thin veneer.
But we had success and I can happily tell you it holds both Hubby's and my weight at the same time (and were not skinny minnies, let me tell you!)
I've only used three Branas baskets from IKEA for now, as will use the end two for storing school bags during the term, however may decide to add two more to make it look more uniform.
I modified a freebie printable found online into simple little name tags on the computer, colour printed them and laminated them for the three baskets;
Shoes - Clothes - Other
These are the items that I'm finding end up left at the door and needing a home throughout the day. The idea behind the 'other' basket is for things that need to go into the car etc.
So far? So good!
It is functional and working a treat but
time will TELL!!
xx Clare

I LOVE it!!!!!!!!! How awesome is that!!! Good on you! It will look fab with the cushion too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Nat xx
ReplyDeleteThat looks SO good!!!!! Great work x
ReplyDeleteThis looks fantastic !!!!!! Well done on the "hack" :)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous I love it! So wishing I had a space for something like this in my house!!
ReplyDeleteWell done Clare, such a useful thing to have in a busy household xx
Love it Claresy, I would love to do something similar except i do prefer dirty farm boots to stay outside, so i wonder whether I could modify something similar to this for it to be outside on the verandah, but then my issue is having a coat rack outside - the coats would blow away AND would i prefer it at the back door, the back laundry door OR the front door??????? aaarrrggghhh! i almost need something inside (for things similar to wwhat you are using your for) and maybe an outside station too for the grubby workgear that shouldn't come inside!
ReplyDeleteanyhow - lovely job. You're perfection as always! xx
That is fantastic - you should be so proud. I wish I had a spot that I could do that. We have loads of windows and not enough free wall space.
ReplyDeleteYou clever chicky you - I love it, love the rack, love the unit, love the baskets, love the whole damn thing :) xx
ReplyDeleteI love the baskets and the tags, the whole thing is just gorgeous...
ReplyDeleteWould you like to come to QLD and help me redecorate and design our place once the renos are done? he he.. x
Beautiful Clare! I am taking a trip to Ikea this weekend and I can't wait, will be picking up something similar to your shelf for our front entry and over our fire! Joe muttered something about having to take out a loan for my visit there....hehe
ReplyDeleteLooks fab. So jealous we don't have wall space in our house. I have a 4x2 expedit with boxes and it's great but nowhere to put the stenstorp and trust me, I've tried in my mind to make it work a hundred times lol.
ReplyDeleteA super idea Clare.
ReplyDeleteI am looking at making an area like this in our home and love your ideas. Just wondering if you can tell me what height legs you used to make the expedit the right height for sitting on or what the overall finished height of it is. Thanks.
